What is Telework?

At its simplest telework is work from a distance but it covers a wide range of work forms and can have many names.

Telework is about people: how they work, how they interact and how they prepare for an increasingly changing world.

And it's about flexibility: flexible work locations and work times, flexible management structures and flexible responses to the challenges of change.

Telework is about resilience and getting the most out of available resources. It provides better ways of working and better responses to modern challenges.
It provides an alternative to traffic congestion, an alternative to office distractions and an alternative to tying up capital in expensive office space or car parks.

The world has changed—and is continuing to change at an ever-increasing rate. To cope with the changes that surround us we all have to get smarter about how we manage our businesses. Organizations have to find new ways of retaining valued staff, increasing profit and productivity and managing the performance of work.

Telework needs to be implemented sensitively and telework initiatives must be appropriate to the organization and its staff. However, there are many possible benefits for employers, individuals, government and the wider community.
