On Tuesday, August 23rd, the Obama administration announced a series of regulations that could be eliminated in an effort to save businesses about $10 billion over the next five years, USA Today reports (Wolf, USA Today, 8/24).
Cass Sunstein, administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, said that 26 agencies submitted more than 500 possible rule eliminations that could ease the regulatory burden on businesses.
One of the rule rollbacks the White House proposed aims to make it easier for health care providers to use telehealth technology to treat Medicaid and Medicare beneficiaries living in rural areas.
The move would allow physicians to provide video consultations at remote hospitals without needing to receive credentialing at each remote medical center.
According to the White House, the change could save hospitals about $13.6 million (Liberto, CNN Money, 8/23).
