What's Your Work Style - Video Meetings or Meetings in Person?

From clogged airports to time away from loved ones, some busy professionals might wish to be in two places at once.

As a boom in new technologies is changing how we work, professionals are increasingly looking at replacing the trip and that in-person meeting with video.

“Despite the recession, or perhaps as a result, interest in video conferencing has never been higher, with vendors reporting growing sales, and growing interest from customers looking to use video conferencing to either replace travel, or improve collaboration for distributed workgroups,’’ according to a November 14, 2011 story in TMCnet “Video Conferencing Market Will Boom, Expected to Hit 1BN (billion) By 2016.’’ ” Adoption trends are all pointing to enterprises accepting that we’ve reached the age of video. … In fact, Ovum ... is predicting that the video conferencing market will hit $1BN (billion) by 2016.’’)

Whether it is a simple video conference or a meeting with telepresence or immersive video -- which goes far beyond traditional video conferencing by replicating face-to-face interaction so realistically it makes participants feel as though they are in the same room – video is here to stay.

Multi-taskers beware. While video does the trick of bringing people together face-to-face, the person on the other side witnesses every move. Unlike audio conference calls -- where multitasking tends to run rampant -- video requires a sharper focus.

We work with large business and government customers to manage global and often dispersed workforces and deploy advanced collaboration capabilities to fuel the growing borderless work style.

Are you a fan of video meetings? How does meeting by video compare to meeting in person?

Send us your feedback – to what is happening in your work force -- on how businesses can move toward the future world of work.
