VIA3 is like a hug when you can’t travel

My mother has been ill for several years now and was staying at a nursing home in Virginia. I live in Atlanta with my husband and we go home several times a year.

Since my mother got sick, I purchased VIA3, a secure web conferencing product that would allow me to talk with my Dad every evening at 7PM. We have so enjoyed the product because of the excellent video and audio…I feel like I am in the room with him talking about my mother’s day. It is the closest thing to giving someone a hug when neither one of us can travel.

This year we were preparing for Christmas dinner with one of my sisters and her daughter. Around 2PM, I receive a call from another sister in Virginia that the nursing home was taking Mom to the emergency room. She is a diabetic and was very lethargic and dehydrated. My first thought was that we all needed to get in the car and drive the 8 hours to be with her and my Dad. Once we realized that she wasn’t going into a coma…we decided to use VIA3 so all of us could talk with my Dad.

We attached our PC to our 44 inch TV and invited my Dad into a meeting so we all could see how she was doing and obtain the latest update on my mother’s health. She was stable but would be staying in the hospital for 3 or 4 more days.

As I was inviting other family members that live in DC, I realized that if the hospital had VIA3, we all could meet with the Dr. and agree on the next steps. Since VIA3 is HIPAA compliant and has the highest level of security for desktop software, we did not need to worry about violating any security regulations. This is really critical for not only the patient but for the Dr. and the hospital.
