Advanced video conferencing software creates virtual care solutions for healthcare

The healthcare field is benefiting greatly from video conferencing services and unified communications networks that connect healthcare providers with patients over long distances and encourage other physicians to collaborate on treatment plans and scientific discoveries.

Software companies are developing new products to leverage video conferencing services and unified communications to create a virtual care solution for healthcare organizations. These products integrate video, messaging and collaborative applications to improve care delivery and increase operational efficiencies. The technology has been proven to reduce overall costs, while meeting regulatory compliance and improving patient outcomes.

For example, the Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles, Washington, was recently awarded a $113,466 federal grant to implement a distance learning program for medical providers on the North Olympic Peninsula. The funding will be used to connect Jefferson Healthcare, Forks Community Hospital and the Olympic Medical Center through the Distance Learning and Telemedicine program designed to connect rural and metropolitan facilities, Peninsula Daily News reported.

The source reported patients will have greater access to health education programs and providers through the funding, and the technology will eliminate the need to travel for each visit to the doctor. Video conferencing services will be used to connect the facilities, and encourage collaboration between physicians, faculty, students, patients and other providers.
