IDC study highlights importance of customers identifying communication needs

A recent study from the International Data Corporation identified the leading vendors of unified communications and video and voice infrastructure market, as well as important strategies customers should implement when selecting a provider and service.

Rich Costello, senior research analyst at IDC, said customers are looking for unified communications networks that integrate all applications, including video conferencing services, onto a single platform and provide a measurable return on investment.

"In order to be successful, the industry must continue to develop incremental business use cases to build confidence among customers and drive investments in UC," said Costello.

Once customers have the confidence in the technology, it is important that they identify what company needs must be met with the communication tools and select appropriate applications and infrastructure to achieve these goals.

Public sector organizations are having their communications needs met with the technology at a rapid pace. U.S. government agencies are deploying video conferencing and unified communications services to connect offices and share data all over the country and the world. They are able to select the tools needed to successfully run their networks, and identify the goals they hope to accomplish with the solutions.
